The video presents the detailed process of training of village community members under Open Defecation Elimination Campaign in Rural Maharashtra. The campaign entails a community-led process to develop a plan to make the village open defecation free (ODF). It also involves laying down roles and responsibilities of stakeholders. Through this process an actionable plan emerges to make the village ODF and this plan is termed as ODEP. The activities that unfold during the four day process are summarised below.
• Day Zero: Issue of letter to inform Gram Panchayat about ODEP schedule and preliminary meeting with key stakeholders
• Day One: Preliminary meeting with community to understand open defecation elimination planning process, analysis of household sanitation status and transect walk
• Day Two: Good morning squad, participatory sanitation and hygiene mapping, sanitation walk and triggering tools, discussion on solid waste management, sanitation and hygiene
• Day Three: Interpersonal communication/household visits, rally by school children and ODEP is presented to the Gram Sabha for approval
Upon successful implementation of the plan the village is declared ODF.
