Social and Behaviour Change Interventions for Promoting Complementry Feeding

Description Under Call to Action, Population Council in partnership with UNICEF and USAID conducted an evidence review to identify key social and behaviour change (SBC) strategies and health outcomes supporting child survival in the South Asia region, especially in India. The policy brief encapsulates the results of the evidence review on interventions that could lead to timely and appropriate complementary feeding practices. These include:
o Building capacity of government community health workers to promote improved complementary feeding practices through interpersonal communication
o Implement community-based initiatives through government systems (ICDS centres, VHNDs)
o Provide timely counselling to promote complementary feeding practices
o Supportive supervision of community health workers
Some of the key policy recommendations of the review include, improving governance for nutrition, enhancing counselling at individual level and regular weighing and use of growth chart as communication aid.
