Race to Good Health

Race to Good Health

Synopses: The video depicts the importance of handwashing to ensure a healthy and bright future of children. It showcases the successful initiatives taken to educate children on benefits and steps of handwashing and provide low cost handwashing infrastructure in schools of Maharashtra. Fostering group handwashing practices, creation of low-cost, durable and child-friendly mass handwashing stations and mobilising SMC and community members to support handwashing initiatives have been depicted as potent strategies to promote handwashing among children. The video also shows that under the Government’s Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidyalaya campaign provision of adequate handwashing and sanitation facilities in the school is necessary. It also recognises that mid-day-meal scheme in schools is an excellent platform to promote handwashing with soap among children. ODEP Advocacy Maharahtra Film (Marathi)

Synopses: Through this video, implementation of Open Defecation Elimination Campaign in Rural Maharashtra has been depicted. This campaign is being implemented by Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Government of Maharashtra with the support of UNICEF and PRIMOVE. Open Defecation Elimination Plan (ODEP) is a community-led process to develop a plan to make the village open defecation free (ODF). The plan preparation requires community consultation for identification of household toilets to be constructed or repaired and improvement of institutional sanitation facilities in schools and anganwadi centres. It also involves laying down roles and responsibilities of stakeholders. Through this process an actionable plan emerges to make the village ODF and this plan is termed as ODEP. This approach is different from PRA and CLTS because it not only seeks to trigger and motivate the community but also encompasses aggregating the demand and exploring appropriate technical options with a plan of supply chain, developing a community based monitoring system and ensuring suitability. The main goal of the campaign is to make Maharashtra open defecation free by October 2, 2019. Suggested Audience: Government Officials at all levels; PRI members
