Description | Synopses:
Through this video, implementation of Open Defecation Elimination Campaign in Rural Maharashtra has been depicted. This campaign is being implemented by Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Government of Maharashtra with the support of UNICEF and PRIMOVE. Open Defecation Elimination Plan (ODEP) is a community-led process to develop a plan to make the village open defecation free (ODF). The plan preparation requires community consultation for identification of household toilets to be constructed or repaired and improvement of institutional sanitation facilities in schools and anganwadi centres. It also involves laying down roles and responsibilities of stakeholders. Through this process an actionable plan emerges to make the village ODF and this plan is termed as ODEP. This approach is different from PRA and CLTS because it not only seeks to trigger and motivate the community but also encompasses aggregating the demand and exploring appropriate technical options with a plan of supply chain, developing a community based monitoring system and ensuring suitability. The main goal of the campaign is to make Maharashtra open defecation free by October 2, 2019. Suggested Audience: Government Officials at all levels; PRI members |
